Spirit Airlines

Miramar, Florida, is home to Spirit Airlines, a low-cost international carrier. Fort Lauderdale International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Airport are the airline's primary hubs. More than 60 cities in the United States and Latin and South American countries are serviced by Spirit Airlines.

Ultra-Low-Cost Carriers Offer Extremely Reasonable Rates

In 2007, Spirit Airlines began repositioning itself as a low-cost airline under the tagline "Less Money, More Go." The cheap ticket prices reflect the 'ultra-low-cost.' In addition to the base ticket, passengers can pay for optional extras like baggage allowance, onboard beverages, and seat selection. In addition to the standard fare, commuters can purchase upgrades such as checked luggage, onboard food and beverage, and seat selection. The plane has spare seats in its economy section.

Class of Travel

There are two types of Economy Class seats available on this airline. The Standard Economy Class seat and the Premium Economy Class seat differ primarily in their bench height and tray placement.

Spirit Airlines sticks to its "Less Money, More Go" tagline by not providing in-flight entertainment in the form of television programming.

However, travelers can take advantage of the airline's low-cost, high-speed Wi-Fi. Spirit Airlines has a wide variety of meal options available for purchase with a debit or credit card while in flight.

You may get snacks, including popcorn, almonds, baked goods, and sweets.

Fleet

Spirit Airlines' Airbus fleet average age is 4.8 years with 67 Airbus. Next to Virgin America and Volaris of Mexico, Spirit's Airbus fleet is the youngest in the Americas. In October 2013, Spirit contracted with International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) to lease five more Airbus A320NEOs and three pre-owned Airbus A319s. To accommodate its growing fleet, Spirit Airlines placed an order for 30 Airbus A320-200 planes in 2006, with deliveries beginning in March 2010.

Routes and Destinations

Including the United States, the Caribbean, and South America, Spirit Airlines flies to 52 different locations. Locations include Dallas/Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Detroit, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas.

Luggage Policy

According to the airline's baggage policy, personal items are defined as a purse, laptop bag, or compact bag. The total size (including grips and lids) can't be bigger than 18 by 14 by 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm).

Carry-on dimensions for wheeled and handled bags are 22 inches by 18 inches by 10 inches (56 x 46 x 25 cm). Depending on the itinerary, Spirit Airlines may allow a passenger to check a bag in lieu of a carry-on if they cannot load the bag securely.
